Exploring Potential – Growing, Processing and Marketing Poultry

Pinewood, SC, Fairmont, NC!– USDA MPPTA Client Spotlight

Meet Jermaine Walker, a determined visionary with dreams as big as the Carolina sky. Jermaine’s working to sow the seeds of a poultry growing, processing, and marketing cooperative.

Once a contract poultry grower, Jermaine invested his heart and soul in building eight grow-out facilities for broilers. His goal was to secure his family’s future with a stable income. But, the large integrator’s constant demands for capital improvements pushed him into an unending cycle of debt. When he stood his ground, he lost his contract.

Not one to stand still, Jermaine persevered and started to work crafting financial projections and rallying local ranchers who share his vision. Together, they’re working to create a rancher-owned marketing cooperative.

Let’s cheer on Jermaine and his fellow ranchers as they pave the way to a bright agricultural future!
